Data Security and Confidentiality Policy

Handling Sensitive User and Customer Data

Revision: May 2018

Proteome Software takes data security and privacy very seriously. In general, we treat all experimental data with respect and general security. It's our policy to not share data with anyone other than staff, unless expressly stated otherwise.

This protection includes an appropriate level of security over the equipment and software used to process, store, and transmit this information.

Here are the basic security levels we recognize:

0 Demo data
1 Test data
2 Day-to-day best practices
3 Sensitive data
4 Highly sensitive

The scope of information security includes the protection of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. In general, if we receive data from an end-user or customer, it is automatically treated with level 3 security.

This level of security is higher than that which is applied to other data that we use for testing and demonstrating our software internally and externally. Those levels (0 and 1) refer to data that has been obfuscated or are anonymous and any identifiers have been removed. Or, they refer to data from owners who freely allow us to use the data for these reasons. If a user requests a higher level of security, we honor that request and treat these data accordingly.

Further, we maintain a special directory on our private data stores labeled “protected,” where all high security data are stored (level 4). Unless otherwise specified, these data are destroyed routinely to assure confidentiality.
